• Michael G. Koehler, Ph.D. assisted with research for the Palatine Scouts in Troop 209, who were recently honored with the “Dream Up Expedition in Space” award from NanoRacks.  The troop traveled to the Kennedy Space Center to witness their project blast off in a flight headed for the International Space Station.  Their project hopes to determine if the rate a substance mutates is different in a zero-gravity space environment as compared to Earth.  Read here for specific details of their project.
  • Several SAE Chicago Section officers, including Timothy M. Hicks, participated in a meet and greet with members of the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC) Motorsports team. Key junior and senior level students presented their baja and formula SAE competition vehicles, and updated the officers on the status of their plans for the coming year.  Visit sae.uic.edu for more information about this program.
  • Congratulations to Roch and Debbie Shipley on the birth of their firsBen-Laurelt grandchild!  Carter Roch Hutchison was born August 23, 2017, to proud parents Ben and Laurel (nee Shipley) Hutchison.
  • Our 2017 summer interns successfully completed their work with Professional Analysis.  Among various engine photosprojects, they took on restoring and creating a demonstration exhibit from an aircraft engine for display (see before and after photos to the right).  Thank you to Eoin LaneRobert Streit, and Jonathan Bornemann for all your hard work and good luck in college!
  • Our president, and principal engineer, Dr. Roch J. Shipley, participated again this year in the annual Bike the Drive event, held on May 28, 2017, on Lake Shore Drive, in Chicago.  Great work Dr. Shipley!! The event benefits Active Transportation Alliance which is a non-profit, member-based advocacy organization that works to make bicycling, walking and public transit safe, convenient and fun.
  • The Failure Analysis Society (FAS) of ASM International has appointed Dr. Roch J. Shipley as Treasurer of the FAS Board.
